Mon + Ali
Ben Lomond is located just outside of Launceston. It’s the only place in Tasmania where you can ski or snowboard and I was fortunate enough to head up there in August for an awesome engagement shoot with Mon and Ali. To get up to Ben Lomond, you need to drive up the infamous Jacobs Ladder – a steep and snowy road that hugs the side of a crumbling cliff as it snakes its way up to the peak. I snagged a lift up in the shuttle bus, and as I peeked out the window at the sheer verticle drop that awaited one wrong move, I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of my old camper van trying to slog it’s way up here.
When we reached the top, my next move was to decide where we were going to do the photo shoot. The sun was setting over the peak of Ben Lomond, we had blue skies and the thick pillowy slow rippled on for as far as the eye could see. We considered piling onto the snowmobile and gunning it to the summit, but with my couple’s shoots, I always like getting lots of candid photos of people walking, talking and in this case falling over.
Once we hiked to the top, soaked in the 360 degree vistas and had a snow fight to the death, we made our way back to the top of Jacob’s Ladder for sunset. Mon and Ali climbed down the slippery moss-covered rocks and found a nice spot to savour the last light as it disappeared behind the towering cliffs of Ben Lomond.
